Im not sold on the solas pumps but would like to try one, the veins are quite thick and it weighs a tonne, i think if you run the right prop theres nothing wrong with a stock pump for freeriding.

I think the solas ones are 8lb twice as heavy as a standard sj one? i am all ready running a 9/15 Impros Hooker prop, smaller pump cone its just someone said there can be a big improvement from a new pump set up? might have to do a little more research.

Seen as im wanting lots of bottom end will I benefit from a lighter fly wheel?
if its lighter ill lose torque or do I not want torque for bottom end?

Much better off with a lightened flywheel, the pump may help hookup but not enough for you to notice probably but the flywheel will give you brap, look at all the top riders here, sicboi, sox, etc all running stock pumps.

Norms right. weve been muckin round with heaps of different setups
We have the solas pump in taynes race boat
Best results so far in surf boat is 12/18 prop in stainless housing stock stator viens and tbm pump cone u will get heaps with a lightened fly wheel
Weve done heaps of back to back trials with pumps
This is how B Rads ski is setup and everyone knows how that ski goes

looks like ill stay with the standard pump set up

is TBM the only after market charging fly wheel and does it work on a 61x and a 62t?
how much can be machined off the standard fly wheel
as i can do this and it wont cost anything.

also does the msd enhancer make a big differance?

1mm off the outside of the fly wheel is what we did front and top

    only lets it rev higher
take your stock cdi and cut the black wire that you can see almost comming out of the filler this is the rev limiter wire will get tayne to post a picture saves $400 on an MSD

Yea forget the msd, either cut your cdi limiter wire or get a programmable ignition, I wouldn't modify a stock flywheel, get a tbm if you can afford it

Did you get that flywheel dynamically balanced after it was machined?

we have done all our stock ones like this no balancing after shouldnt need it if done properly we use a crank in the lathe with fly wheel bolted on
you have to much money norm

I did a bunch a few years ago.....cant remember what thickness i took off exactly but equated to atleast 300grams off i think ....but most of them came apart after some time......so was too much obviously .......1mm as Tbear mentions would be fairly safe bet ....

take 180-200 gram max off and get it ballanced...cost about 80 bucks but worth doing
  18. Keasty701

    Keasty701 Member

Does it make that much different with only a few hundie grams off it?
