I want to CC a 64u head to see what they are standard so if you know yours hasnt been touched and are willing to lend it to me, let me know. I also need a used head gasket. My 64u is 35cc but it may have been skimmed at some point... Standard the SJ 701 is supost to be 7.2:1 so I think that means the standard head should be about 40cc. 2nd part: I bought 37cc domes and have run them in my SJ while the engine was being run in. Now its all good im going to increase the CR and put in either the 35 or 33cc domes. What do you guys run? I cant realy see a problem with the 33 if 35 is standard. Cant be that much of a jump in CR. This may be to much trouble as ive got non OE pistons... Thanks!
remember that an stock Head uses a head gasket which means the dome CC's will be a few cc less than a O-ring style head producing the same compression, as the thickness of the head gasket adds a few CC. 180psi (usually around 37cc domes) is about what most people go upto on pump gas (98 octane) ...anything above people tend to run Av gas or Av gas mixed with pump gas.
Yeah thats why im after a used gasket so I can measure it. Ive got a new one and it measures out to add around 8cc to the unswept volume (before its been compressed, not ideal but it gives an idea). That extra 8cc and a head dome size of 40cc gives it a close OE compression ratio. 700/2= 350. 350/48= 7.3:1 This is getting to technical, I should just do what works with every one else. Thats interesting about the 37's. Ive run mine on 95 and havnt had any problems. Any one else have smaller domes on pump gas with out problems? Ive run av gas before and apart from the amazing smell its a pain in the arse to get hold of.
