To have a Freestyle comp or race is the question???

I proposed to the organiser of the Hamilton enduro having something for the pole ski's at this event and the question is do we want races free style or both at this event.
I proposed a log jump at the start finnish if we decide to race if possible.

Your suggestion with the poleski's would be a positive feature.
As the HJSA round will this year be a trial round looking to guage the popularity of introducing the 2 x 60 minute races in flat water, it's also the perfect opportunity to include the Poleski interest.
Race Programme. (Approx)
1/ 11.00 am 20 min Poleski - 1st round of Poleski freestyle
2/ 12.00 1st 60 min Runabout Race
3/ 1.15 pm 2nd 20 min Poleski Race- 2nd round Poleski - 2nd round Poleski freestyle
4/ 2.15 pm 2nd 60 min Runabout Race
5/ 4.00pm Prizegiving at race venue

Can you run the Poleski's as above ?

HJSA submitted this round for August, may be difficule to change as Karapiro is booked well in Advanced, I would still like to keep our round as the middle event with possibly Matakana 1st Wgtn final round, no word back yet if there will be 4th round.
Apart from the date confirmation you can Organise the Poleski programme if that suits.
The Winter Tour Committee will confirm dates by the 16th May at the latest



What are everyones thoughts??

To put on an interesting flatwater freestyle demo in nz there would need to be at least 2 wake boats avaliable to form a v wake. If that were possible then I would be keen as to try some tricks if my ski still starts..

personally im not really keen on racing flat water/ enduro (especially when you only have a ski setup for surf (short pole etc ))...doing occasional surf round is fun tho.... im guessin that probably goes for a few people on here....

but yeah as Sox sez....as far as a demo goes , there would need to be a decent wake / V-Wake

The problem is that nobody has hand holds and stiff poles...

You cannot have a true freestyle contest with your pole flopping all over the place unless it's held on K road...

We use to have a log jump at every race, Roger parker was a dryballs and went around it.

That 91 world finals race was intense.

I'm pretty much of the same thought as Sox and Knoxie...Bring on the wake boats!!

Also, its the kind of thing I might do if I had nothing else on when its happening and I knew there was going to be a good turn out - like what happened at Papamoa recently. Difference being at Papamoa we were all looking forward to playing at Matakana on the Sunday.

I get the feeling that in order to organise something new like a freestyle event or whatever there needs to be a confirmed numbers of entrants before any cash changes hands or else it could be a big flop.

To be fair, as you can tell from the good natured ribbing that goes on, the riders on this site are more about the surf. But people should be encouraged to put forward any ideas to promote pole skiing in NZ - even if flat water is involved

Some talk ages ago about maybe having a freestyle surf event/demo at a beah like Pauanui but I think Council and logistics were too difficult?
