I am having a problem removing the flywheel on my 91 superjet. I have the proper puller and have tried to "shock" it off with hammer on the puller bolt but it won't budge. The flywheel has been painted and perhaps it has paint on the mating surface with the crank that is glueing it together. I understand it is not advisable to apply heat to this area. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to try next?
have you got the motor out - heaps easier when it happened to me.. I wound it up tight as .. left overnite still tight and given it the bash in the morning, which for some reason has worked
I have the motor sitting on my bench, and have done up the puller so tight it is grinding down the metal on the end of the puller tip. So where is the best place to give it the bash?
...still 'bashed' it as suppose too (as designed to). - at the end of the puller bolt....it's quite a good knock you give it. if still not workin may pay to take in to a reconditioners and see what they say.
do you have the puller pushing on the crank tip (bolt fully removed) or on top of the loosened bolt?........if the bolt is too far out it might be soaking up the shock when you hit it?....and/or deforming the thread.........
I have put a nut on to the bolt that fits inside the flywheel hole and tightened this all onto the crankshaft so there is no give at all, and the flywheel is not obstructed from coming off. I have put a countersink hole in the end of the bolt that the puller can locate into. This enables the whole thing to be done up so tight that I have already broken one of the 3 bolts that go from the puller back onto the flywheel ... but the bastard still won't budge!
penetration! you need some food lube, and some heat, a heat gun would do, it doesn't want to get suuuuuper hot, but hot.
yeah, that's cooza's flywheel, came detached while in action up the river at parker, arazona. I think he did the work himself.......fkn welders!
Well I finally got it off - it involved a fair bit of heat and hammering because it was loctited on. I can understand using loctite on the threads of the flywheel bolt, but the entire mating surface was coated... That isn't normal is it?
.... on re-assembly ... Iv'e always been told not to use loctite on any of it.... and a torgue wrench to do it up
never use loctite on any flywheel surface or flywheel bolt. (as you will experience exactly what you just have !!! ) always use a little bit of oil on the flywheel bolt thread and torque to the correct spec.
