    yo!

a couple of my mates have Kawasaki SXR's and I had my first ride mid way through last year and got hooked!! While my partner and I save for SXR's (we just bought our first house so cash is tied up at the mo) we got a couple of 95' 550 SX's. There fossils compared to what you guys are riding!!

They have been in storage for 4 years. I got all the old fuel out and put some fresh 98 and valvoline two stroke in them and charged the batteries up. The white one started first pop but im having some trouble with the primer/choke on the black one. It doesn't seem to be sucking in fuel.

Before I take them on the water, is there anything i should do to them? I'd rather do it myself that put them in a shop...... Will they be okay for now? How will they hold up to jumping waves and 180's?

Thanks for any feedback and I hope to see some of you guys out there!!

Way to go. Im sure there is alot of guys out there who will want to try your skis. Just make sure they are reliable befor taking them in the surf. I spent ages in the river and am still shit in the surf.

I was over at Steve's yesterday checking out the foot holes and the reinforcement they got. Looks mean! They were having a play with the blige pumps then but think they wanted you to wire them up? I'm working until about 12ish on Saturday but straight after i'll be keen to hit the river.

The only thing that worries me about taking them in the surf is the air intake. It looks like a lot of water could get in there......

i used to attempt to ride my old 300 in the surf, same intake, never got any water in there, well not too much.

the cranks could be a bit dodge if they have been in storage for that long, if the were stored propperly (they call it winterised i think) the skis should be ok. if ur gona take them in the surf i would suggest u go with someone who has a newer ski and a rope (just in case)
My parents used to ride there JS 550s in the surf back in the 80s and they went fine.

also before u get a sxr i recomend you have a decent blast on a superjet :D

My Mate jst sold his 550, we put a b-pipe on it and still bit slugish so took the water box out and fuck did that make differnce, as long as you dont mind noise i would say take the box out, it used to get a bit of water in the intake so mayb make up a deflector
    Jst my two cents..

I take it the water box is the box in front of the fuel tank?? Im still finding my way around a ski... What's the water box do??

I've got them running and there doesn't seem to be any problem's (touch wood) but once I get down to the river on Saturday I guess i'll find out more about them. There blowing a bit of white smoke tho......

Oh, and i've gone through alot of threads and there seems to be some healthy war between Kawasaki's and Yamaha's!

Yep thats him, its a muffler for sound basicly like a car but it gets half fulled with water from the exhaust which dampers the sound, as for the white smoke thats normal its the two stroke oil in the fuel burning.

haha my old 550 used to smoke like a bastard ... took on a bit of water doin subs etc... just keep the bilges doin their thing... you'll be sweet, but would recommend riding with someone at all times no matter where you are.

    750sxi

What did you like about the superjet over a kawasaki? I was on the Kawasaki website and the RRP on a 09' is $13,590 whereas a guy on trademe is selling 09' SuperJet's for $10,652.

I'd have to back that up too, I've had 2 x 650sx's and an SXI pro...

Now I only have an old SN superjet but still way better than anything I previously had in the surf. No looking back for me, looking for a decent round nose very shortly I'd say. (Anyone know of a mint RN for sale?)

Just look at what everyone in NZ thats serious about surf riding is on, kinda speaks volumes. Can't say I've seen anyone in NZ barrell roll or backflip an SXR or SXI...Take a look at the Dalusion vids. James SXR was the best I'd seen, but it was modified a bit.

Only a trouser bandit would rate a Kawa over Yamaha for freestyle.

Well said Dax. Most Kwaker riders chase ferrys of both kinds.
