Hey guys I need a second opinion.

My rn superjet isn't charging (have tested volts when it revs at teh battery an no increase). I got stuck in an estuary up Greenhithe and had to jumpstart it.

I've tested the resistance of green wires in the ebox for the lighting coil and get no reading. Is this pretty conclusive that it's dead, or are there other tests?

Next thing, how hard is it to fix a lighting coil or where do i get the part?

    Thanks

Have you tried a new battery? if it ran after you jumped started it then its charging

Hi Craig, I understood that the lighting coil (thing that charges it) is seperate to the ignition system so it could run without a battery. There is no increase in volts when i rev it with a voltmeter on the terminals so I'm pretty confident it's not charging.

Can you just replace one coil on the stator or do i need a whole new one.

    Cheers

i dont think thats entirely true ....but i could be wrong

On the stator you have 3 coils:

Pulser coil (for timing your spark)
Lighting coil (for charging the battery)
Charger Coil (for charging the capaciter in the CDI which runs the spark)

So i would think as long as your Pulser and Charger coils are ok it would still run and just not charge the battery.

yes you can replace just one coil.
If you can solder ok you can do it yourself no problem, or a motor rewinder would have it done in 15mins

    2 cents worth....
I once thought I had a faulty battery (not charging or holding charge) regulator in my black box was faulty (which was flattening the batt running or not)

Do i need a special tool to get to the stator? I've heard of people putting rope down the spark hole in order to get the flywheel bolt off. Seems a little dodge, how do you guys do it, or do you all have the tool?

Being an amateur at pulling stuff apart should i attempt getting to the stator and fixing myself, or am i gonna just screw more stuff up?

    Thanks

To get the flywheel off, it is easyer to pull the tank out first. I used a small wedge of wood ( 15-20mm wide and 0-20mm taper 40mm long) and jammed it between the teeth of the flywheel the the housing below the bendix area I think (try not to break the side out of the housing), with that you can undo the nut. But you may well need a tri-slot type flywheel puller and bolts to match the flywheel holes.

using the rope in the cylinder only stops motor turing over while you loosen bolt .....you still need a flywheel puller to get the flywheel off.....

i have a flywheel holder and flywheel puller ....flick me a text if you want to borrow them..........your not living with Matt anymore eh ?? I heard he was living in a van!!

rattle gun gets it off no probs.
  10. Sometimes it will charge enough to keep the engine running but not enough to recharge the battery

The charging circuit and the coil that fires up the ignition are different on a superjet. When you jumped started it you spun fast enough to get the exciter coil going but you charging coil was stuffed and did not charge your battery
