in the back end of the jet unit, theres a removable cone piece filled with grease- it has 3 bolts holding it on, and a bolt in the middle- presumably for filling with grease....

this centre bolt has evidently gone missing.... therefore water has gone into the bearing.

having never pulled this shit apart before myself, will water have gotten to the front bearing? or is this cone piece area isolated to just the rear bearing?

It should be packed full of grease between the front and rear bearing but if your there you may as well do both bearings and all seals.

Im unsure about the fourth bolt for the middle tho, Mine dosnt have on on the cone. Im assuming your not talking about the large threaded part on the shaft its self? (behind the cone)

nah mine has another thread (not the big one inside the cone) - looks to be m6 on the pointy end of the cone.... perhaps a good place for a grease nipple to go?

but yea, its coming apart tomorrow.....

Stubby pump cones give are awesome for introducing cavitation as well
save the 80 and use it to get prop repitched

I use Yamaha marine grease, but any good waterproof marine grease is sweet.
