How much does your ski weigh?

I just took my ski to work and chucked it on the scales and it weighed 155 kg with battery and full tank of gas.

In the spec sheets for the 08 superjet it says dry weight is 132 kgs.

    132 + 20 kgs fuel = 152 kgs

    155 kg - 152 kg = 3 kg

    3 kg = 3 litres of water

I had a fear that the foam is waterlogged so this proves that somewhere in the boat there is 3 litres of water.

Oh the fun of owning an old ski.

Has anybody else weighed there skis?
  2. I just ground out a ton of glue from my hull. I have no idea what it weighs
  3. If your ski has reiforcements that could account for some of the extra weight + theres meant to be a bit of variation in the weight of stock skis

Im about to make your boat heavier! lol
The fuel tank is only 18 litres and petrol weighs less than water so you can add another couple of kilo's to your dry weight there. The 2008 ski is weighed with a stock pipe, pole, intake manifold and twin carbs.
You have a Factory pipe, alloy pole, single intake and single carb! Id say theres about 2-3 kilos there as well so in theory that should make your ski about 5 to 7 kgs lighter than a factory 2008 SJ.

Im not totally sure if iv got my facts straight here but I believe the pre 2008 SJ's were lighter by about 5 kgs for some reason 127kg rings a bell?

Maybe it would have been better not to weigh it! lol
I wouldnt be too worried, it doesnt matter what ski you buy, it will retain a certain amount of water the first time you go out on it anyway.

OHHH you just had to open your mouth didnt ya. HAHAHA

Yeah i still have the stock pipe on at the moment and the UMI pole is actually heavier than stock as well.

i need somebody to weigh their ski for a comparison.

if you wanna get real clever on the weight of the fuel, it depends on the temperature and specific gravity of the batch of fuel, but as a rule of thumb fuel weighs somewhere between .79 and .81 compared to water.
hate to think how much water is trapped in mine somewhere!! I'd be to scared to weigh it!

Crikey JetPilot, thats a fairly serious formula youve laid out for us there! lol
I think we could use a rule of thumb and just call fuel 20% lighter! lol

haha sorry was an aircraft refueller for 10 odd years so had to know that stuff, could get ugly if I mucked up my maths in that job!
  9. Whatever the 'approximate' weight is it's a hell of a lot lighter than that bumble bee you were riding!

HAHAHA. You mean that floating grenade. Roger was saying they actually weigh around 121 kgs dry weight.

    155 kgs
    -15 kgs fuel approx
    ___________

    141 kgs

Thats still 19 KGS over weight. Im going to need to take more than a dump to compensate for that weight.

I wouldn't place too much on factory quoted specs as I know there's often a discrepency between 'actual' and 'claimed' weights (usually 'claimed' is lighter). Also, you quote '08 specs but are comparing to an "old ski" - comparing apples with oranges?

If it makes you feel better there was a 550 owner on PWCToday who claimed his 'ski weighed as much as an SXR 800 due to water logging, so you've got some way to go yet!
