Hi Guys, ive come to a point where i need more power. I am considering over the winter to bore out my 650 to 701.Can anyone tell me if it is worth doing this? Will i loose reliability? Ive heard that the 6m6 engine is a dog and u really need to replace everything but the crank. Or is best to buy a 701 and put it in and sell my 650 engine. I really dont know what to do. Any ideas would be a great.
    Cheers

Sell your old 650 engine, buy the 61X gear off Retro, new crank and Pro-X pistons... Sussed.

you definately want the 61X cylinder at least......

The yamaha motors are like this (i think):

    650 (single cab) - Superjet
    6m6 cases
6m6 cylinders – small ports …I think they only bore out to like 670

    701 (single carb) -Superjet
61x cases – bigger reeds than 6m6 cases
    61x cylinders

    701 (dual carb) - Superjet
62t cases – bigger reeds than 61x cases
    61x cylinders

701 (dual carb) – WaveRaider etc
    62t cases
62t cylinders –still 701cc but different porting than 61x

    760 (dual carb) – WaveRaider / GP760 etc
    62t cases
64x cylinders – same porting as 62t cylinder but 760cc

i think 64u is the number on some of the heads....not sure which.

note that ...the codes i mentioned above are the casting numbers not the numbers you see on the engine tag

64U is the 760 Head marking

    Re: 650/701

i thort the fx1 only came out as a 701....all i did with my 650 superjet is took the motor out and slamed the 701 in it.heeps easyer and less pissn around...

does anyone here have a bored 650. If so ,how does it go?

The 701 will go on your cases
you need to over bore them however

the 650 cylinder with an awesome portjob will go slightly worse than a stock 701

way easier to go 701 barrels

reliablity and strength are getting questionable when boring out the 650.

...and from 701 you can go bigger

Im now considering maybe buying a waveraider and swaping engines around. Putting my 650 in it and it can be the mrs ski ;)

What do you boys recommend the 701 raider engine or 760?

you probably better to get a 701 raider, as the 760 model usually runs a 155 pump which will be a bit of a struggle for the 650 to power.- the raider will be pretty underpowered anyway with a 650

However a 760 in the superjet will go real well
