Hi everyone, I am after a bit of advice on steering upgrades. I have a 2004 Superjet which currently has a stock standard steering system. I have had a bit of a hunt around I see there is a few variations on the bars (0 degrees 4 degrees offset etc) and steering plates. Not really sure what any of this means as far as ride improvement. Any help would be great, cheers.
If your looking for something simple and reliable, get yourself a KP turn plate that runs the stock bushing and a set of straight bars between myself, knoxie, dick webb or roger these parts will be easy to get I may have a second hand set of bars
Gets you further forward on the ski which is a good thing Once you've gotten used to straight bars (which will take all of 20mins) you'd never go back. +1 on Terrys recommendation re the KP turn plate setup
Thanks guys that's great. I had a look at the KP website, they have aftermarket poles as well that look good and well priced. I assume these are shorter than the stock? Which also gets you further forward on the ski?
The KP poles are extremely good value for money and very versatile. You can't beat them based on price/performance. They can be supplied with longer than standard tubes if needed (I doubt you will need these so just go with standard). Essentially trim the tubes to the approx. length you want or feel comfortable with and then you can get adjustment in and out (around that cut length) by sliding the tubes in/out of the top/bottom bracket. So the pole is any length you want it to be. Personal preference on the length, most guys love a longer pole, but I'm more of a "cut it as short as possible" kind of bloke. The further forward you are on your ski in the surf the better. Well to a certain point anyway... My recommendation would be start with a pole thats 2" shorter than stock and also get a turnplate and straight bars that will give you another -1" increment or so. Puts you about 3-4" in front of where you stand now (thats assuming you are running a completely stock length pole and bars).
