hi guyz, i need some advice on how to go about rebuilding (knoxi's old)s/n 701 .05 over bore . iv opened up reed intakes, c/f reeds seem ok. crank no rust moves well.removed exhust manifold pistons seem fine as does sleeves very lite scoring ...., iwas thinking jus needs new rings? comp=130 even. question were do i pull apart next head jugs or both? cheers
What did you measure the compression with? Compression testers can vary a bit, tofa told me that the cheap testers that don't fill the spark plug hole can make a huge difference in the measurement. The fact that its 130 even indicates perhaps the compression test is out. The engine was pretty much in mint condition when I sold it, what happened to it in between now and then who knows - but if its even then I'd be suspect of the test.
Was the engine hot and were you full throttle when doing test as that makes a big difference as well. While its apart you may as well just change rings. You dont need to take the head off for that as a new gasket is about 100 for an oem one. My two cents worth. I can calibrate your comp tester at work if you want.
i tested it 2 months ago got the same readings over 2 testers, theres a fair gap between piston and walls,throttel open. 100 bucks a gasket is a bit of a joke . will probly get it fully rebuilt in time
how often do you lot change rings and then pistons in hours? i think some stock skis ride for 10 years b4 they bother
Yep $100 over 10 years = $10 a year pretty good investment So if you spent $7k every 10 years thats 700 a year pretty good i reckon for this sport Just everyone lets everything get totally fucked before they fix it or sell it to someone else
