I had a couple of goes at mounting mine. Mk 1 was mounted on the chin part of my helmet but it made getting on and off bloody hard as it would hit the pole every time I tryed to get back on. It also made my helmety super front heavy so I didnt like it at all. My second attempt was way better, Mounted it on the fore head of my helmet. I had to make up an alloy bracket so I had a flat surface to mount it to but it works sweet. I used a small 3 or 4mm bolt so the sticky mount cant come off.

I also tie a small bit of rope around the black plastic handle on the camera to my helmet just in case. Ive already lost one and there bloody expensive as im sure you know!

Can put up a pic if you want

I'll get a pic up tonight (hopefully) of my mount. I didn't go to the extreme that Steve has with the brackets and screws.

The adhesive that is on the back of the plastic mounts is a very good 3M VHB tape. Key to this working is ensuring you have a good clean surface. i.e. clean the area you're going to stick it to with meths first. Then clamp it lightly and let it dry/cure for 72hrs before use. That is critically important.

I'd also recommend eyeing up the curved mount first on the surface of the helmet in the location you want as I had to add some more VHB tape to pack it right. Front forehead location is the best.

I use this mount: http://store.visionup.co.nz/index.php/gopro-acc/helmet-front-mount.html. However I have removed the extension arm and mounted it directly to the hook-shaped base facing forwards. (Make sure you get the mount base the right way around). With the location I have it in, and also this floaty back door fitted (http://store.visionup.co.nz/index.php/gopro-acc/floaty-backdoor.html - thoroughly recommend), it sits nicely with the foam pad slightly pressed against the helmet/mount. This provides some support when it takes a hit of water straight on.

Probably none of the above makes sense but the pic will explain. Will try and get it up tonight.

The gopro HD there selling on oneday is still a bloody good camera. You can pick them up off the offical gopro web site for just under $250 NZD but then have to pay shipping ontop so probably not much cheeper than getting it from the US.

Yeah thats a pretty good price - check out that visionup.co.nz site above - it'll give you the market rate in NZ.

The Hero 2 does take a slightly better quality picture (more megapixels) but depends on whether you want to stretch your budget to that. I have the original Hero model (like the one on 1-day at the mo) and I'm quite happy with the quality. Biggest downfall of all of either of them is that you have to be close to the person your riding with to get a good quality pic i.e. fill the frame.

Here are the pics of my mount for reference. Hopefully makes sense based on what I said above.

You can see the extra strip of VHB tape I put on in the pic below as my helmet had a bit of a hollow in that area for a vent.

We have it here at work. We use it to adhere the front windows of our stereos to the cases. Can try and find some and send it down if you want?
