SJ anode, do I really need it?

    Was just changing my domes when I found my anode broken in two in the bottom of the water jacket. :? I dont really need it do I? May be order one and replace it next time I have the head off? Im keen to get the job finished this weekend...

    replace it now man.its help stops saltwater eating away at the rest of ur motor.iv seen outboads with fuckd 1s and it looks like someones been taking bite out of the skeg.bottom of the gearboxs.

    Simple answer, no you do not need it, as most of the water automatically drains out of the cylinder anyways...

    No aftermarket engine builders use them or replace them!

    FWIW, you should use Zinc or aluminum anodes in salt water, and magnesium or aluminum in fesh water. Most outboard motor companies use aluminium now days.

    If you always flush it out and disconnect the battery then you probably wont need it. I would run it for when you go away and dont flush your ski for a few days and are too pissed to bother taking the positive lead off.

    U dont need it, just flush your ski, Oh and try riding it sometimes :roll:

    Hell, I think Tofa only flushes his ski when he is going to take the engine out... ***edit, that's almost every ride***

    Yeah tofa's speedshop is good at pulling engines and thats about it!

    Thanks guys, I actually put it back together that night and left it out. I dont usually disconnect the battery so will do that from now on.

    Im always keen for a ride! Its just that my hang overs get in the way....
